Tarrant’s Australian eleven began the last four-day match to-day against an India eleven at Madras in beautiful sunny weather, on a turf wicket the lasting qualities or which are doubtful. The Board of Control permitted Tarrant to take in three local players, but lie decided to field an all-Australian side. Wazirali won the toss and batted first. There is great feeling all over the country over the side-tracking ot four leading players, including K. Xayudu. Scores: INDlA.—First Innings. Bose, c Ryder, b Leathod 4 Mushtaqali, run out 43 Amarnath, not out 30 Amarsingh, not out 45 Extras 4 Total for two wickets 126 Later. All India are out for IS9. APPEAL FOR NEW L.B.W. RULE. LON DON, February 5. Sir Stanley Jackson, at the annual meeting ot the Yorkshire Cricket Club, appealed foY the general adoption of the leg-He fore experiment. He said it- may be contended there was a. difference between county grounds and first-class umpires and natural wickets and “natural" umpires in the lower grades. Admittedly the new rule would increase the difficulties of the latter, but bo did not think its adoption would spoil the game.
