Charlie Chaplin’s first film for five years, “Modern Times,”, was given its world premiere here tonight. In many respects it is his most ambitious film. It is a social satire of which the machine age is tip' object. The best moments, however, consist principally of old familiar tricks. There is very little dialogue, although be* breaks bis rule and sings a song tlio words of which are gibberish. He composed the music, wrote, produced and directed the. film, which lias been well received by the critics.
