Ihe Pal) iatuii Radies’ Croquet. C lub is gradually increasing its membership and by next year when the greens will be in much better playing condition, the new members will be well versed in the finer points of the game. The club intends to hold a. shop day in aid of its funds on the day of the ewe fair in Pahiatua. While engaged -n filling a small metal truck at Angelinas pit this morning a member of Gill and Company’s road construction staff, Mr IJon McLeod, metr with a painful accident. He had emptied his truck and was pushing it back up a. slope when by mischance the lever that engages the transmission moved. Usually a movement of. the lever would put the brake on but on this occasion the years became meshed and the truck ran back striking Mr McReod on the head and knocking, him to the_ rails The iron wheel passed over his right arm near the wrist and inflicted very painful injuries He wa, s taken to Dr. E. B. Watson’s surgery for treatment where the arm was found to have sustained severe bruising. Mr McLeod may count himself very fortunate to escape so lightly as his arm might, easily have been smashed to pulp.
