CONQUERING THE NIGHT.

SCIENCE AIDS AIRMEN United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegra pli—Copyright. LONDON February 3. The Daily Herald says that an airman’s “magic bottle,” on which Government radio research experts are working, is intended to enable pilots flying blind in fog or darkness to see where they are going. The device works in conjunction with, a wireless direction finder .which picks up two broadcasting station-; and automatically determines the airman’s position, which is then transferred to a. cathode ray tube similar to that used for television, and -over which the pilot fits a transparent, map of. the route. On the map‘appears a pinpoint of light which is controlled by the direction finder and which represents the aeroplane as it moves aicross the map. Thus,' although the countryside is blotted out, the pilot is able safely to shape his course towards his destination.
