Ihe f-'niithfield strike committee claims that men emploved in the eolcl stores and wlinrvi s declared themselves unwilling to handle meat, but this decision does not affect butter or other perishable goods. The men claim there is no use pursuing talks which have proceeded fruitlessly for eight months. “Most of the employers sympathise with us,” they say “and we will not be intimidated by others ” The effect of the strike was felt at Southampton, where it was decided to leave 14.000 tons of Argentine chilled meat aboard the Alcantarawbich arrived on February 3.
