AUDACIOUS THEFT.
SEVENTY-FOUR STUD LAMBS. Electric Telegraph—Press Association. DUN ED IN, February 2. An audacious the* t of 74 stud Romney and Border Leicester lambs, niostlv ewes, occurred between Sunday and Wednesday last from Wilson's grazing paddocks in Stirling, •South Otago. The stud sheep, which wore owned hv Mr Robert Loehliead, of Balolutha, were part of a flock of 200 lambs. They were seen grazing in a paddock on Sundav afternoon hv Mr Wilson. On Wodnesdav Mr Wilson noticed that there did not appear to be the full number in the flock, and.on a muster being made a shortage of 74 was discovered. An examination of the paddocks nnd roads showed that some of the lambs had ’ been driven frojii the paddock where they were grazing into .ineither paddock and then on to the K:i i tangata-Sti rl mg Road and into a noth V? paddock 20 yards farther along the road toward StirThere was evidence that they had been herded in a corner of the paddock and loaded on to a lorry. The missing lambs were valued at £2 3s each. They were not earmarked, but were branded by a black dot about three inches in diameter on the Id ft side. One or two by special rams had two red dots on the right side in addition. The lambs were bred by Mr Loch head Tho police are investigating.
