January 29 With an exception on both sides, conflicting claims >f victory on both fronts of war. and its repercussions have receded into the background in the last ten days, but newspapers this morning, contain reminder** that the lamentable business is far from done with and Britain’s reply to the Italian protest against the Mediterranean Fleet dispositions as being an unwarranted disregard cf League liberties, will be one of the first tasks of the Foreign Office. ‘OCCUPANTS OF GLASS HO USES* Tt is wondered whether th<. other Governments concerned will remind reproachful "Italy that her entire disregard of League responsibilities, commencing with aggression without even declaring wan. scarcely fits her for a lecturing role. The official Spokesman at Borne, alluding to London newspapers’ assertion that Italy will accept an oil embargo as she did the financial and economic sanctions, said: “Foreign Governments should have no illusions on that matter-—we will react to oil sanctions with such measures as we think opportune*.”
