Readers’ attention is drawn to the advertisement on page I advising that Mr Wills’ bus will leave the Aard service station at 7.40 on Friday evening for the Druids’ social at Ball a nee.
Prior to the business yesterday of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association meeting, a motion of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late Mr J. Diamond and the late Mr P. Lawson. The motion was carried in silence , members standing.
At sunset yesterday the Union Jack with its overhanging black pennant, which had fluttered sadly at half-mast on the Pahiatua flagpole since the death of King George was run down and stowed away. Tlie incident took place without public ceremony and few townspeople realised that it was the last official action in connection with the death of the lato King.
Mr Eric Gregorio has donated a silver challenge cup to the Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club for competition as a “B” grade championship, which will bo open to all. players below the eighth position 04 the ladder. Mr W. Hall Watson has also donated silver buttons for men’s championship doubles, and the committee have decided that no players in the first eight may be partnered.
