SECOND CAR RALLY.
WANGANUI IN MARCH
Last year’s initial rally having proved a success, and having pointed the way to even more success 'in i'utu re, the Wanganui Association, with the assistance of the other Xorth Island motoring organisations, is proceeding to hold its second rally in March—March 7-9. The programme has already been issued and contains complete information in regard to the event. There are to be three classes, No 1 for sports ears, any horse-power; No. 2 tor standard cars, 15 h.p. and over, and No 3 for standard ears 14.9 h.p. and under. The prizes in each class are -Clo tor first and £5 for second, in addition to which will be a sum from voluntary subscriptions it the prize-gainer is one of those who has subscribed.
The first day of the rally will lead from anv of the starting points to Napier, the second day will be from Napier to Wanganui, and the third day—at Wanganui—will be devoted to the starting tests, roacl tests, and hill climb, car inspection, driving tests, etc-., the presentation of prizes following—at 4 p.m. Besides the officials at checking points there will be special observers on the various routes to report on breaches of the law—exceeding the speed limit, etc.—ten marks being lost for each breach of the regulations so reported. It is emphasised that the rally is not a speed test ; it is a. test of driving ability and car maintenance, and marks will be lost for every defect revealed when inspection of the vehicle is made.
Entries must be by two drivers, but in addition to the drivers a car may carry passengers, minimum weight of' each 7 stone. For such passenger there l will be bonus marks (five marks for each), hut the passengers must be carried throughout the trip and in the tests that take place subsequently at Wanganui.
