M.r De Valera, speaking in the Dai I, said: “it is to our advantage to be on friendly terms with Britain in trading matters. We are prepared to enter into an agreement to purchase pound for pound from her, and even give her preference. “My object has always been to establish rr ndly r laf Mins. We could •even make Hade and defence "treaties with Brit a in.” _ Mr De Va.lera declared there had been reports that hostile action might be taken against Britain by some foreign Power who might l#md in Ireland with the connivance of the Free State. “I say definitely that as far as this oi any other Irish Government is concerned our territory will not lie permitted to bo used as n base for attacking Bibtain.”
