R.S.A. ACTIVITIES.
POPPY DAY SUCCESS. Notable amongst recent happenings was the outstanding success of the annual Poppy Day collection. This event was again under the sole organisation of Mr H. A. Bick. By collecting £32 8s this indefatigable member exceeded all previous occasions. A word of praise and also the Association’s thanks is due to the ladies who so ably assisted him, and to the organiser the heartiest of congratulations. The trees planted in the R.S.A. reserve are now making good progress, the losses owing to the abnormal dry summer being considerably less than was anticipated. The different varieties of trees planted last season and the proportionate losses from each specific variety should be of material value when this season’s trees are being planted. The memorial tree is still holding pride of place and with a little more protection would do better. The local Association hopes to carry on with further tree planting in the near future as a means of assisting local R.S.A. unemployed and in addition in trying to beautify what was previously nothing more or less than a rubbish dump.
Local members are requested to advertising columns for the forthcoming social event at Eketahuna in June. General Russell will he in attendance. Full details will he advertised at a later date and all diggers are requested to roll up. Air M. R. Lawson lias again been elected delegate to represent the local Association at the Wellington annual conference, to he held in June. A man with the soldiers’ interests at heart, the Pahiatua Diggers are very fortunate in having such a competent arbitrator.
