KAITAWA SEND OFF.

POPULAR YOUNG COUPLE. MR AND MRS M. STEVENSON. (From Our O'wn Correspondent.) A very large crowd gathered at the Kaitawa hi 11 last Friday night to bid farewell to Mr and Airs Murray Stevenson, who have left tin- locality. Everything went with a great swing as usually happens at most functions at Kaitawa The floor was in perfect order and the supper provided by the Kaitawa ladies was everything one could wish for. After supper Mr Andrew Knox asked Air and Airs Stevenson to advance to the stage for a few minutes. After giving a short account of the great help the Steven sons had always been to the district, he asked Airs Stevenson to accept a beautiful silver mounted crystal salad bowl and servers from the Kaitawa Ladies Hockey Club, for which club the recip ien t was secret a rv. At this stage Alr.s Stevenson took the opportunity to thank the ladies very much for their beautiful gifo and remarked that she would long remember the happy days she had spent with the girls. Air Knox then said he had a little more to add. He referred to the good cjualities- of the Stevenson family and the benefit they had been to all sporting activities and social functions in the district. He said that whenever help was needed the Stevensons were, always ready to give it. It was with regret that Kaitawa was allowing them to leave the locality. Mr Alurray Stevenson, in his very quiet way. had always lent a willing hand whenever it was needed especially at socials, etc. He felt sure that the attractive hall and good floor and the well-conducted functions, etc., held in the hall were largely due to the Stevenson family. ‘*l think that is about all T can say/’ ho added, “and T think the residents of the district will join with me in wishing the Stevensons the best of luck and prosperity and every success in their future district/’ He thou handed Air Murray Stevenson a cheque from the settlers of the district amidst loud applause. Master Ray Booth handed Airs Stevenson a beautiful bouquet from rhe Kaitawa Tennis Club and when Airs Stevenson stepped forward to return thanks she was warmly applauded. Air A. Booth expressed his regret at the Stevensons leaving Kaitawa. Speaking- as one who had lived next to Air Alurray Stevenson for a number of years as a neighbour he could say he was “one of the best.” Air Booth endorsed the previous speaker's remarks and wished them the best of luck and success in their future home wherever that might he. Mr W. S. Eett expressed, similar sentiments. He said it was with regret that In- heard that the Stevensons were leaving the district. “I am sure we would not have any hockey here if it was not for Airs Stevenson and Alurray. Whenever we had a bill to foot Alurrav’s share was always there.” He said the district would miss them very much, and he wished them the best of luck from one and all of the residents of Kaitawa. (Loud applause.) Air E. Whitcombe also spoke in glowing terms of the good qualities and esteem in which the Stevensons were held. Air E. Condon spoke in a very feeling maimer and endorsed the previous speakers’ remarks. Air Stevenson was loudly applauded when he rose to return thanks. He said he was very surprised to see so many friends and on behalf of his wife and himself he wished to express his sincere thanks to all for .he beautiful gifts and the speakers for all their kind remarks. He said they were very sorry to leave Kaitawa, but he hoped they would be back again some day. (Applause.) Air A. Knox then took the opportunity of introducing Air Cook, who has purchased Air Stevenson’s farm and Mr Cook made fitting reply.

After singing “For They Are Jolly Food Fellows,” and giving three hearty cheers, dancing continued till the early hours of the morning, to the spirited music of Air Jack Cornford, extras being played by Messrs L. Gleeson (accordeon), and A. Gleeson (violin). Air E. Condon made n very efficient AI.C.
