BASKETBALL.

ATHLETIC CLUB MEETS

The annual meeting of the Athletic Basketball Club was held in the Mayfair Hall last evening, when there was an excellent attend-, ance of members. In the unavoidable absence of the president, Miss Mi. Smith presided. The report and balance-sheet for 1933 were read and adopted. The report was as follows: “The Athletic Basketball Club began practices in the Drill Hall on Wednesday, March 29th, 1933 as the Post Office courts were not marked, and ready for plav. AA e had two teams, an A and B team, and entered both in the Manawatu tournament on June 3rd. The seniors managed to win right through to the finals where they were met and beaten by tlie Pahiattia Ramblers. The juniors also won two of their games and we all had a pleasant day. A new AVoodville club was formed, “Waratahs,” and they entered into the rounds, making keener competition. Three of our club girls gained a place in the senior reps, again this year and the juniors also got represented in the Bush junior reps., the latter playincr against Foxton and the former and Masterton Stars. AVe held a dance and __ raised the gratifying sum of £3 17s 4d. Miss P. Mills is to be complimented on the way she carried out the duties of dance secretary, also Messrs Sutherland, Burgess, Mills, Hodd, Priest and Airs Gardner for conveyance when we played inter-club matches.

“The Ramblers were again successful in proving the winners of the Smith Shield and Russell Cup but we managed to be runners-up and win .a cup. The High School A team were the winners in the junior section.

“The statement of receipts and expenditure for 1933 shows a social balance of £2 2s, making total cash in hand £3 9s Id.” The officials for the ensuing year were elected as follows: Patron. Air AA". J. Alills; president, Airs AA". J. Mills; vice-presidents, Alessrs G. H. Hodd, AA". Houston, N. Prussing, E. T. Horne J. Sutherland and S. J. AVhiteford ; secretary and treasurer, *Aliss AI. Gunn ; club selectors, Airs L. T. Russell. Aliss N. Graham and AUss L. Griffiths. It was decided to keep the subscription at 2s, and to have a change of uniform. J A vote of thanks'was passed to the chair.

There will be a practise in the Drill Hall on Wednesday, the 11th inst., at 2 p.m., when all members are asked to attend.
