KEEPING THEM IN ORDER. THE PAHIATUA COUNTY. The overseer to the Pahiatua County Council, in his monthly report to-day stated as follows £ The earthquake 911 the sth of March caused a considerable amount of damage to roads in your County, particularly on the Paliiatua-Ponga-roa road. The County cottages in practically every Riding were also damaged The teams have been employed 011 the Pahiatua-Mangaone main highway where metal has been dumped for winter use. Work of a similar nature has been carried out at Konini and Mangahao. The trucks have been engaged on the Wellington-Napier main highway and also on the PahiatuaPongaroa highway, where earthquake damage has been made good. The graders have been constantly employed raking in loose shingle on the various highways and also on roads at Konini and Mangahao. M AIN HIGHWAY S. Wellington-Napier : Surface repairs have been carried out and loose metal has been graded in. Pahiatua-Pongaroa : 150 cubic yards of crushed metal has been spread. Men and plant were employed in bringing this road to a reasonably safe condition after the recent earthquake. One abutment at Allen’s bridge is badly damaged. Plans are at present being prepared for widening at various points. It is to be expected that with the arrival of the wet season further trouble will be encountered in the Makuri Gorge. Pahiatua-Railway Station: Watertables have been cleaned and loose shingle has been graded in. Makuri-Miangatoro : The construction of Yeoman’s culvert has been completed and the filling is being proceeded with. This road subsided at several points as a result of the earthquake but most of the damage here has been made good.

Paliiatua-Mangaone : With the exception of the metalling, Vo.well’s culvert has been completed. Subsidences caused by the earthquake have been filled and slips on the Mangaramarama and Kaitawa Hills have been removed. COUNTY ROADS. Plah iat ua-G arge Bridge : Slips have been removed and metal lias been raked in. The wash-out at Mathieson’s Bend has been - fenced. Approximately 100 cubic yards of shingle has been spread. Mjaaig a hao-Valley : Water-tables have been cleaned and general surface work lias been attended to. Palmerston North Track; Watertables have been cleaned and slips have been cut back. The grader will operate on this road at an early date. Makomako-Tutaekara: Metal has been raked in and water-tables have been cleaned. A line of concrete pipes lias been laid. Kopikopiko-Nae Nae*. General surface work lias been carried out. Nikau-Gardner’s Ford: Watertables have been cleaned and potholes have been filled. Scarborough-Konini: 300 cubic yards of shingle has been dumped for maintenance work. A dangerous section of road near O'Brien’s requires widening, and this work will be put in band at an early date. Mangamaire-Pukewhai : Metal lias been raked in. The deck ol Peters’ bridge will be repaired at a favourable opportu 11 i tv. Bidge Central : A dangerous corner lias been cut back. Roek-Makakahi ; Metal lias been graded in and bridge docks have been repaired. Mangaramarama-Tiraumea North: Metal has been raked in and bridges have been repaired. Mangatainoka township: Metal has been raked in and water-tables have been cleaned. The construction ot the Pound bridge lias been completed.

Ruawhata Road: Surface repairs have been carried out and a dangerous corner is at present being widened.

Tiraumea North : Metal has been graded in and necessary metal repairs will be carried out while the grader is iu this locality. Oete-Ngaturi: Slips have been removed and a dangerous wash-out has been filled. Kohinui-Towai : Overhanging scrub has been cut and slips have been removed.

Woodville-Aohanga: Water-tables have been cleaned and slijDs have been removed from the Kohinui section.

Pori-Ivaitawa Ridge: Slips have been removed and overhanging scrub lias been cut.

Tiraumea Valley: M<etal repairs have been carried out and a truck is still operating on this road. The abutment of Whitcombe s bridge was slightly damaged during the ea rthqiiake.
