A SOCIAL GATHERING.
A most enjoyable time was spent at Mangimaire when the Women’s Institute celebrated their birthday with a social. The afternoon was spent in music, recitations and competitions, some of the latter being extremely amusing. The room looked very gay with its cretonne curtains and covered chairs and vases of flowers. A dainty tea was provided and everyone present pronounced the birthday cake made by Mrs J. Brosnahan a huge success. After tea Miss Sargent, of Makomako, presented the points prizes, Mrs J. Brosnahan being first and Airs Breen second. Posies were presented to the retiring secretary and treasurer, Mrs L Wards and Airs Wills. Miss Sargent then wished the Institute very many happy returns, the president, Airs J. Brosnahan, thanking her on behalf of the Institute.
