The Taranaki Jockey Club’s summer meeting opened to-day, the weather being fine though threatening after heavy rain. The attendance was fair and the going good. The tote handled £7359 10s as compared with £7828 15s on the first day last year, the decrease being £469 ss. Further results:

The Dunedin Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened in dull but fine weather before a fair crowd. The going was holding after overnight rain. Vintage, the Cup favourite, was always going nicely and won going away with something in hand. Chhota was a disapx>ointment and never looked like a winner. The course was in good order lor the opening events, but as the day wore on the going became heavy.
