THE OLD AND THE NEW.
The old year passed out and the new year was ushered in very quietlv in Pahiatua, not even a church-bell signalled the event. On Saturday night, there was a good crowd of people on the streets, and the spirit of optimism for the new year seemed to be; much brighter than has been the case for some years. Excellent weather was experienced for tin* holidays. New Year’s Eve b< ing a Run day, there were' none of the usun? attractions to induce people to remain in town.
