CONFERENCE MOVES.
MUCH SPECULATION.
UNITED STATES DEVELOPMENTS. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, September 19. There is considerable speculation regarding Air MacDonald’s conference moves.
The Morning Post says it is believed in well-informed quarters that the imminence of developments in the United States has been discussed both with British economists and League officials. It *is realised that should the United States embark on an inflationary programme would be caused in the markets of the world which possibly would demand drastic action. Air AlacDonald might then, as president of the Worlds Economic Conference, deem it advisable to put some part of the conference machinery into operation in an effort to cope with the situation. The Financial Times says if the dollar maintains a degree of stability at or around the present level sterling will also be maintained near its present figure. It is not inconceivable that gold countries may have to consider a change in policy. Should a run on the Dutch guilder develop, then the position of the franc may be threatened.
