DIAMOND JUBILEE.

ARCHBISHOP REDWOOD. Monsignor Connolly, of Kilbirnie, presided at a large meeting of the Roman Catholic clergy pud laity recently, when arrangements for the celebrations of the diamond jubilee of Archbishop Redwood as a bishop were discussed. The celebrations, which will cover three da vs, will be held toward the end of February next, anticipating the actual anniversary, which falls on March 17, 1934. Among the clergy present at the meeting were the Very Rev. Dr. Mcßae, the Very Rev. r"Father V. McManus, 0.5.5. R., the V erv Rev. Fathers P. J. Smytli, S.M., and N. Moloney, S.M., and the Rev. Father Heffernan, S.M. *

Monsignor Connolly apologised for the absence or his Grace Archbishop CVSliea, who was out of town, and .explained that it was intended fittingly to celebrate the unique eventof the diamond jubilee of Archbishop Redwood—a record unique not only in New Zealand, but in the world—who for sixty years had been a member of the Hierarchy of the Church. Consequently, the eyes of the world would be turned to the celebrations which it was the privilege of the meeting to organise ; they would be a tribute to his Grace, and at the same time the opportunity for a great Catholic' demonstration. For some time past the clergy had been considering the matter, and Archbishop Redwood had desired that the celebrations be on the same lines' as those organised for his golden jubilee ten years ago.
