ARE AUSTRALIAN WOMEN “GADABOUTS"
AN EDITOR PROVES THEY ARE NOT. The statement of an oversea visitor that most Australian women are “gadabouts” is denied flatly by an Australian publisher. He points out that from the office of two popular w omen ’ s publicati ons—“EVerylady ’ s Journal” and “The New Idea”— over six million patterns per year go out to Australian home-dress-makers. These figures go to prove that there is a vast army of homeloving women in this country who, with clever and nimble fingers, make their own or the kiddies’ clothes. How can most of them be ‘ ‘gadabouts” ? For instance, with the August issue of “Everylady’s Journal” are enclosed four delightful free patterns, and fifty charming designs for the spring are illustrated.. Patterns for each of these designs are obtainable in five different sizes. This that scores of thousands of “Everylady’s Journal” patterns will ho used this month to make seasonable clothes. “Everylady’s Journal” is wonderful value for sixpence—as, in addition to fifty fashion designs and four patterns enclosed, it gives dozens of pages of stories, special articles, etc., specially written for Australian women. It can be obtained locally or from Messrs F'itchett, publishers, Melbourne.
