OBITUARY.
MRS P. MARTIN-LEYESEX. After a comparatively brief illness there passed away at Palmerston N. on Sunday last, Mrs Elizabeth U. dget Martm-Levesen, formerly o "k Wairarapa. Born at Naseby. CeSitrav* Otago, Mrs Martin-Leveseu obtained her education at Naseby and the Hamilton South schools "from which she emerged with a splendid record. As a young woman she went to the West Coast and there met her future husband, Mr Peter Maitin-Leve-sen being then supervisei ot construction works at the WestportStockton mine. His duties finailv brought liim to the North Island and he was for varying periods at Lower Hutt- and engaged on work- in the Wairarapa prior to taking up property at Atea, Eketahuna. in 1915. Nine years later Mr and Mrs Martin-Leve-sen retired from active pursuits and came to Palmerston North to live, vhere, as residents of Mair street west, they made many friends. Mrs Martin-Levesen’s health had been somewhat indifferent for some tin-e. The funeral took place on Monday at. Mangatiiinoka There was a large company of old friends awaiting the cortege oil arrival at the < cmetery. Prior to leaving Palmerston North a service was conducted at -St Patrick’s Church by the Rev. Father Jansen, while the graveside ceremony was conducted by Rev. Father (’ashman, assisted by" Rev. Father Doherty. There are left to mourn their loss a husband and family of six children, one son. Company Seigeant-Ma-jor Peter Martin-Leveseu having given his life for his country at tlie battle of Passchendaele. There arc- 12 grandsons and one grand-daughter. The members of the family are Messrs William (Reeftou). Lawrence (Kotuku, Westland), and Thomas (Taihape), and Mesdames A. F la Fronchie (Kohimarama. Auckland), D. Connor (Konini), and D. Peterson (Waituna West), fhree of the family are connected with the teaching profession. Mrs Connor having been, prior to her marriage, engaged in the profession at Gisborne. K.ukariki and Eketahuna, while Mrs Peterson is now stationed at Waituna. West. although originally she was on the staff of the Victoria avenue (Wanganui) school. Mr Thomas MartinLevesen. who is now in the Taihape district, is well known locally, haling served for varying periods on the staffs of Palmerston North schools.
