The value of the estate is sworn at £130,000 and about halt' lias been set aside for charitable purposes. Mrs Smith was the widow of the late Captain James Smith, of James Smith and Company, who was very well known in shipping and coal-mining circles. After making substantial provision in her will for relatives, Mrs Smith left to religious and charitable institutions the following legacies, totalling. £6200: Tabernacle Church £SOO, Tabernacle Sunday School £SOO, Bible Training Institute £SOO, Baptist Women’s Missionary Union £SOO, Baptist Missionary Society £SOO, Baptists’ aged ministers’ fund £SOO, Children’s Orphans’ Home (Manurewa) £250, Salvation Army £250, Young Men’s Christian Association £250, Bible Society (Auckland) £IOO, Auckland Free Kindergarten School (Freeman's Bay) £IOO, Knox Home for Incurables £2OO, St. John’s Ambulance Society £2OO, St. James’ Presbyterian Sunday School £SOO, St. James’ Presbyterian Church £SOO, Auckland Ladies’ Benevolent Society £IOO, Society for Protection of Women and Children £SO, Baptist College (Mount Hobson) £2OO. Further provision having been made for other relatives, the trustee is directed to apply the residue in making other bequests to institutions, societies or objects established vin or about Auckland for charitable, benevolent, educational or religious purposes. The residue thus available is estimated to be about £60,000.
