“HEART-TO-HEART" TALKS.

MR. FORBES IN CANADA. NEW ZEALAND BUTTER. United. Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. VANCOUVER, August 21. In the lengthy heart-to-heart talks between the New Zealand Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, and the Canadian Government, irritation over Canada’s treatment of some New Zealand butter shipments held the first place. Mr Forbes did not object so much to the restrictions imposed by the treaty as to the sudden application of a dumping clause by Canada on shipments regularly coming to Vancouver. Under the new arrangement which Mr Forbes is taking home with him the Canadian Government will keep New Zealand exporters fully advised several months ahead of how they should govern their shipment schedules. Anyway, the Canada-New Zealand Treaty is being renewed in November for another year, with slight modifications. At Toronto, Air Forbes was given a reception in the City Hall Square on Monday. He gave an Empire message to the people tiling tie square. “The Empire must grow into an even closer national and economic unit,” lie said. He accepted a Cenotaph flag from the city to hang in the Memorial Hall at Waitaki High School, Oamaru. Ala* Forbes paid a tribute to the Canadian Prime Minister] Air R. B. Bennett, saying that he had been of ‘ 'great help to myself at the Economic Conference and both the Imperial and World Conferences. We looked upon him as our champion.”

Air Forbes refused to discuss at Toronto his conversations with the Alinister of Trade and Commerce, the Hon. H. H. Stevens.
