MOTORMAN COLLAPSES.
A RUNAWAY TRAM. ACCIDENT IN SYDNEY. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, August 22. AYhen a motorman collapsed at the controls to-day, his tram bolted downhill at Red fern and finally collided with the rear of another tram. Ten passengers were hurt, receiving mainly abrasions, lacerations and shock. Eye-witnesses say it was miraculous “that several were not killed, so severe was the impact. Both trams were badly damaged. Some passengers, realising tha-t an accident was inevitable, leapt from the runaway tram, risking their lives among the dense and fastmoving motor traffic. There were scenes of great confusion when the collision occurred. Terrified women, suffering from shock and lacerations, receiving attention, resulted in a complete traffic block in Cleveland Street, which is a busy highway on the fringe of the city.
