MANGAMUTU SCHOOL.
BR E A KING-UP CONGER T. A very enjoyable concert was given by the Scarborough School children in the Mangamutu Hall. Despite the very cold night and counter-attractions, there was a very fair audience of parents and friends. A very bountiful and dainty supper was provided by the ladies of the district which, at the conclusion of the entertainment, was done full justice to by the children. The programme was as follows: Song of welcome, by all classes. Recitation by James Macdonald, "When Fairies Have a Picnic.” Dance by junior children, “I see you.” Play, “Robin Hood”—Vincent O’Brien, “Robin Hood” ; Kenneth Sowry, "Friar Tuck” ; Herbert Simmons, “ Allan-A-Dale” ; Donald Heayns, “Little John’ ; Thomas O’Donnell, “Simon of Lincoln” • Ann O’Donnell, “Maid Maria n” ; Mary Macdonald, “Rosamund.” Song, junior children, “Jolly Little Eskimo.” Recitation, Noeline Bisset. Dance hv senior children, “Gathering Peaseeds.” Song by senior children, “Sweet and Low.” Play, “The Sleeping Beauty,” by the junior children; the characters were: “King,” Basil Bengston; “Queen,” Noelme Bisset; “The Princess,” Winifred Saywell; “The Prince,” Betty Sutton ; “The Bad Fairy,” “Gwen Bennetto; “Four Fairies,” Minia Hughes. Enid Bennetto, Isobel Heayns and Joan Grey.” Becitation, Herbert Simmons. Drill display (encored). Recitation, Joan Sowry. God Save the King. Mr D. O’Brien, chairman of the •School Committee, owing to a prior i ngagement, was unable to he present. This was regretted hv pupils and teachers.
At the conclusion of the entertainment Mr L. Heayns thanked all who had assisted to make the gathering so successful. He also thanked Misses Hurren and Tregnrtna, who had spent so much tune in training the children, musica i honours being accorded them Ihe entertainment was brought to a close at II o’clock In the singing ot Auld Lang Syne.
