WORLD CONFERENCE.
“ NOT A BIG SUCCESS.” MR. FORBES’S OPINION. United Press Assn.— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. OTTAWA, August 21. Consultations between representatives of British Empire countries during and subsequent to the World Economic Conference were “certainly very worth while,” in the opinion of the Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who was here on Sunday. He will visit Toronto, Niagara Falls, and Chicago. Mr Forbes said the conference itself was “not a. big success nor yet a big failure.” He had nothing to say as to the nature of his recent conversations with the Canadian Minister of trade and Customs, the Hon. H. H. Stevens, when asked regarding the possibility of an extension of the New Zealand-Canadian Trade Treaty. Mr Forbes remarked that the convention did not expire until November 24. He did not indicate what action was contemplated by either the Canadian or New Zealand Government. Mr Forbes left for Toronto on Sunday night, following discussion with the Acting-Premier, Sir George Perlev, and Mr Stevens. The conversation, it is understood, traversed the whole field of reciprocal trade between Canada and .New Zealand, with sxoecial attention to the importation of New Zealand butter into Cali a da.
