SEYERAL PERSONS FINED

A sequel to the police raid on Rodney’s Club at Seatoun earlv on the morning of Sunday. July 30, was heard at the 'Magistrate’s Court, YY'ellington, when KodneyRankhurst was charged before Mr E Page S.M.. with two offences ot selling liquor in a no-licence area; keeping liquor for sale in a nolicence area : ordering liquor, which was to 1,,- taken into a no-licence area, without notifying the person to whom the order was given where the liquor was to be taken: and keeping open a cabaret, on Sunday. Ihreo waiters employed at the club, C liarles YY'illiani Sheridan, Benjamin Bailey and Hugh Grainger, were charged with aiding and abetting Pankhurst to sell liquor in a 110licence area.

The Alagistrate fined Pankhurst £3O and costs on the first charge ot selling liquor 111 a 110-licence area, and on tile second he convicted the defendant and ordered him to pav eosts. Pankhurst was fined a further 4-4 on the charge relating to the ordering of the liquor. The Magistrate ordered the confiscation of the liquor seized. Pankhnrst was given one month in which to find the money. The three waiters, who were stated to be acting under the direction 01 their employer. Pankhurst were each fined £2.
