OLD-TIME DANCING
EXCELLENT R.S.A. FUNCTION. The old-time dance organised by tho local R.S.A. and held in the Foresters’ Hall last evening was a most enjoyable and successful function. The attendance was gratifyingly large and there were many of the older brigade whose faces are not frequently seen, at the customary dance functions. These pre-war steppers were in their element and the modern dancers were equally interested in terp-. sichorean movements that they had never seen properly perfoj med before. The majority entered with gusto into the Jolly Miller waltzes, military two-stejis and barn dances. In addition there was a good sprinkling of fox-trots so that all sections were well catered for. Capital dance music was played "by a local orchestra comprising Mrs W. H. Minch (at, the piano), Messrs F. Merrie (violin), W. H. March (cornet), E. Burrell (saxophone) , R. Merrie (clarionet) and C. McCarule (euphonium). Extras were kindly supplied by Mrs W. 11. March and Mr C. Larsen._ The dancing was under the expert direction of Messrs O. Stone, W. F. Hudson and Dr. H. Paterson. Community singing added to the enjoyment of the evening, the leader being Mr W. Greaves. A light, sit-down supper was served. At a suitable interval Dr. H. Paterson, in a characteristically humorous speech, thanked all for their support and trusted, that they had thorough! v enjoyed themselves. It was hoped to repeat the success at a later elate'. The gathering was very well conducted and bad a jolly atmosphere about it. If repeated such dances should grow in popularity. There were many requests last night for more of such gatherings. The programme was as follows: Waltz, Schottische. Waltz (Jolly Miller), Lancers, Military Two-step, Valuta Waltz, Barn Dance. Waltz. Fox Trot, Cbnnniinitv Singing, Supper Waltz, Extras, Waltz (Jolly Miller), Lancers, Schottische, Waltz (Excuse ! Mol). Fox Trot. Burn Dance, Valeta I Waltz, Military Two-step, Waltz.
