TOO MUCH PETROL

A SOURCE OF TROUBLE. Few motorists would believe that carrying too much petrol in their tanks would cause trouble and stoppages. An Auckland motorist who returned from Rqtorua recently told the story of how he was held up three times. He filled up his tank at a. wayside bowser. He filled it so full that the petrol was lapping the rank-cap. He started off oil his journey again, but before he had gone more than a quarter of a mile the engine coughed and spluttered and died. The motorist, believing there was a blockage in the feed-pipe, blew it out. Twice after that he had trouble. He cleaned the vacuum tank and the carburettor. Even then his car coughed and stopped. Then he realised the trouble. There was so much petrol in the tank that not enough air was getting through the small noles in the cap to force the spirit through the pipe. A pint or two was syphoned out, and all was well.
