SCOUTS AND GUIDES MESSAGES FROM ROYALTY. Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, February 22. At a great Boy Scout and Giri Guide rally held in the Domain yesterday in honour of the visit oi Lord Baden Powell, 10,000 boys and girls were on parade and gave a magnificent display of marching. Scout craft and tableaux of historic events in New Zealand history. Messages from the Prince of Wales and Princess Mary and the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, t, ■ the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides ol New Zealand were read by Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. MESSAGE FROM PRINCE. The Prince of Wales wrote to -Lord Baden-Powell as follows: My Dear Chief Scout, —I have had' the good fortune to have visited all the British overseas Dominions in my time, and in each of them I have been glad to see the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides on ai promising foundation and possessing very much the same standard of efficiency tts their brothers and sisters in the Old Country. My hope' is that in all parts of' the Empire they will go on developing, not only in numbers and scoutcraft. but also in that grand spirit of goodwill and courage which I saw so wonderfully shown by those gallant fathers and elder brothers who fought in. the Great War. I desire you will give to the Scouts and Guides my cordial greetings and best wishes for good camping. Yours sincerely.—Edward. PRINCESS MARY’S MESSAGE. Princess Mary’s massage was as follows: May I take this opportunity of sending by the Chief Guide illy' warmest greetings to the Guides and Brownies of New Zealand. I am always immensely glad to hear news of guiding in your country, and I know that the movement has made splendid progress during these last few years. It is a very great pleasure to us in England to meet New Zealand Guides, and I hop© that we may have the pleasure of welcoming many more. I hope that the future will bring much happiness and success to you all. MOVEMENT AN -ASSET. The message from the GovernorGeneral extended cordial greetings. “The New Zealand Boy' Scouts and Girl Guides,” he telegraphed, “are a great asset to the Dominion in promoting those qualities of enterprise. resourcefulness, self-denial, and self-respect which so, singularly characterised the early pioneers, and without which no nation can maintain its vigour and prosperity .” Lord Baden-Powell said he had replied to his Excellency stating that “Thei pluck, virility and resourcefulness qf New Zealand people in the earthquake area had earned v.orld-wide admiration, and it was the hope of Lady Baden-Powell and him,self ‘to ' reproduce those qualities in the young through Scouting and Guiding.” Lord and Lady Baden-Powell left for Rotorua to-day.
