While India is praying that conversations between the Viceroy and Gandhi might bring a change of heart in India’s smiling sphinx, little hope is felt from wliat Gandhi has said at an interview. Full and frank discussions on all points brought no more than a pious utterance that the future is with God. If is understood that Gandhi insists that the, Government should declare that Indians shall be free to continue civil disobedience and the manufacture of salt, and if necessary be allowed to continue the picketing of foreign cloth and liquor shops, hut some other Congress leaders are working towards conciliation. VILLAGERS ATTACK POLICE. (Received 10.50 a.m.) DELHI, February 22. Further violence in the Tha-rra-waddy district, in Burma, is reported. Hundreds of villagers attacked a, small armed police, force at Zaingthwe. The police were compelled to defend themselves and .killed 28 villagers. One police officer was wounded.
