A BIG FUNERAL.
( OAT, MILLIONAI RE. United Press Assn—By Electric Telegraph—Cop vrl el 11 SYDNEY. March 7. Ibe funeral of the late Mr John Brown, the wealthy mine proprietor, took place at Newcastle to-dav. It was the largest ever seen in' that town. I housancls lined the route ; they included all classes of men and women. Six large cars were loaded w’th flowers One Wreath was from Mr Brown’s oldest friend. Sir Adrian Knox, Chief Justice of the High Court. Fie Miners’ Federation- was represented by Mr D. Davies secretary. and the Northern Collieries’ Assooiat’on by Mr C. M. McDonald. Brown made repeated guts of large sums of money during his lifetime to charities and even to distressed miners’ famil es. Mr Brown was ever an anonymous donor. Ihe late John Brown’s estate is estimated variously at from one and a-lialf to two and a-half millions sterling. Tf it is worth only a millions, the State will demand 20 per cc'R-. or £200,000 probate duty and j lie Federal duty will he an additional 15 per cent., or £150,000
