ALLEGED MURDER.

AUCKLAND SENSATION TRACES OF POISON. Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, March 9.. A sensation was caused at Northcote yesterday afternoon, when Arthur Thomas Munn, a former member of the Northcote Borough Council, was arrested on a charge of murdering his wife, Lily Mary Mann. Mrs Munn died on February 11 at at her home in Richmond avenue, Northcote, having first become ill ten days previously. In that period she was attended by a doctor three or four times and he was present at her death. At the inquest, formal evidence of identification was given and then adjourned sine die, a post mortem being ordered by the Coroner and following tliis, the contents of deceased’s stomach were submitted to the Government analyst. The police state that the analyst’s report showed the presence of poison. Deceased was a war widow, being formerly Mrs Weatherly. Munn had previously been married and had three children. There are two children of the second marriage, aged eight and five years. Her death came as a great shock to the neighbours and the Borough Council passed a resolution of sympathy with Munn in his bereavement. The Muns occupied a six-roomed bungalow in Richmond avenue, Northcote and their married life was apparently happy. At a special sitting of the Police Court, Munn was charged with the murder of his wife on February 11. He was not represented by counsel. The charge was read and the case adjourned to March 17. Munn is a wicker worker by occupation and he has always taken a prominent part in local affairs in his district.
