Mil COATES A FARMER AGAIN. Electric Telegraph —Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. February 14. “How do you like being a, farmer again?” was : question put to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition and former Prime Minister, this morning, shortly after his arrival from Wellington to take part in the. ceremony to mark the opening of the electric train service on the Christchureh-Lyttelton line. Mr Coates, who was looking bronzed and fit, replied that he had been a farmer all his life and during the past couple of months had been looking after his farm and certain commercial interests. He admitted that he had done a bit of harvesting this year. ESCAPED FROM CUSTODY. AUCKLAND. Last Night. No trace has been discovered of John W. Osborne. aged 17 years, who escaped from custody at the City Police station at one o’clock this morning. * Osborne had been arrested on a charge of stealing jewellery and money of a. total value of £75 from a house at Mount Roskill. He was locked in a cell at the station and when a sergeant and constable were making their rounds «!' the cells at about one o’clock he slipped between them down the corridors and out the backyard gate of the station. When Osborne’s name was called in the Police Court, this morning, it was stated lie had got away by a clever ruse. The ease was adjourned for a week.
