With her test jewels worth about £60.000, including a diamond tiara with three perfect strings of pearls, Lady Glanely left Newmarket in a motor to join her husband, a racecourse owner, at Bath. The car skidded at Rogston (Hertfordshire) in an attempt t 0 avoid a cyclist, and overturned, catching fire. Lady Glanely, lier maid and chauffeur ivei'e rescued with difficulty, the jewels remaining in the car. The petrol exploded, and som e of the scattered jewels were recovered, otherwise they were almost a total loss. The cyclist fractured his skull and leg. and is in a critical condition. —Times cable.
