EARLY SETTLER
FARE WELLED AT RUAAVHATA. Practically every household in Ruawhata was represented on Wednesday evening at the farewell social tendered in the schoolroom to a very highly-respected family, Airs L. Mason and her two daughters, Mrs Mason having given up farming to settle in Pahiatua. The schoolroom was simply crowded, and visitors were in attendance from Mangatainoka, Pahiatua and Ballance. Air R. C. Yates presented the guests of th e evening with a beautiful dinner set, and in doing so referred to the fact that Airs Mason was one of the original settlers at' ltuawhata. Though, shortly after taking up land there, she had lost her husband in a clrowing fatality, Mrs Mason had faced every difficulty and battled on successfully on her unimproved farm. She was deserving of the greatest praise for the manner in which she had managed and brought up her family. (Applause). Musical honours were accorded Airs and the Alisses Mason with enthusiasm, after which Air R. Cooper fittingly responded on their behalf.
Splendid danc e music was supplied by Air and Airs T. R. Milne. Air R. Holden acted as M.C., and a very nice supper was provided.
