ONE KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED

A LORRY OVERTURNS. Electric Telegraph —Press Association PALMERSTON N., Last Night. As a result of a lorry overturning on a bend near the Whirokino bridge on the Foxton-Levin highway yesterday morning, John Smart, a married man, aged 40 years, bricklayer byoccupation, was killed, and Charles Harding, a married man, aged 35 years* builder, was seriously injured. Both are residents of Taihape. There were five people on the lorry, which was carrying a load of miscellaneous goodiS. the driver being Thomas Slade, of Taihape, and the other passengers being Albert Robertson and Fred Chippendale, also of Taihape. The party left Taihape early yesterday for Wellington, where Slade and Robertson were proceeding to fulfil a contract. Deceased and the injured man were at the back of tlie lorry cab, the others being inside, and it appears that when the vehicle was taking a turn round a rather dangerous bend on the road the accelerator jammed with the result that the lorry swerved and capsized over the brink of a bank, dropping about ten feet
