BUCKLEY ARRESTED
CAUGHT IN THE CITY CHARGED WITH HOUSEBREAKING. The recapture was effected yesterday in Wellington by Detectives AlcLennan and .Jarrokl ot John Buckley, who, with Frank Bailer, a fellow prisoner, escaped from Alt. Eden Gaol, Auckland, on the night of May 26 last. Bailer was recaptured at Shark Bay, Birkenhead district. Buckley made Us way to the King Country, and was later heard of at Kakalii. near Tatunarunui. The next, information concerning him came last Friday in the form of a letter to the editor of “The Sun” (Auckland) bearing a Christchurch postmark' dated July 11. In the letter Buckley protested against being accused of committing several crimes, and gave his reasons for escaping from Alt. Eden Gaol. In a footnote to the letter Buckley said that lie had made provision against his whereabouts being discovered from the postmark. It was ascertained yesterday that the AVellington police had known for some days past that Buckley was m the city. He wais recognised one day last week by a constable, but managed to elude arrest. Although only 24 years of : has already been declared an habitual criminal. Buckley is a native o': England.
