The report will appear in a later issue of the Herald. A DRAW FOR POSITION’S. Concerning the appointment of a finance committee. Or Champion suggested that the names of councillors, be placed in a hat and the first five drawn out represent the finance committee. the remainder to be the works committee.

Cr Cornelius said that rather than there be any ill feeling over the matter he would suggest that the whole council comprise' the finance committee, as had been done once before Cr Clulow thought that separate committees, fitnfnce and works, were a waste of time.

Cr Bisset: “I suggest that if there is any feeling at all the present Works committee be the finance committee and the present finance be the works committee.”

Cr Bryant said that as things were the work's committee did not have much business to transact. If everyone sat on the finance committee the younger councillors would get a better grasp of affairs. He moved in this direction, and it was seconded by Cr Clulow.

Cr Champion maintained that there-should be separate committees. More business, however, might be relegated to the works committee. Cr Bisset moved an amendment that the present finance committee be tlie new works committee and present works committee he the new finance committee.

This was seconded by Cr Cornelius and a division resulted in the voting being four all, as follows: Ayes: Crs Bolton, Cornelius, Champion, and Bisset.

Noes: Crs Clulow, Whitta, Bryant, and Fouhy. In the absence of Cr T. Hodgins the chairman, was required to give his casting vote and he said that in the circumstances he would record it against the amendment. Cr Whitta then moved a further amendment, seconded by Cr Champion, that the finance committee be elected by ballot. The division resulted: Ayes: Cl's Bolton. Clulow, Whitta, Champion, and Fouhy. Noes: Crs Bryant Cornelius, and Bisset.

The amendment was then put as the motion and also carried. The names were thereupon put into a hat arid the first four drawn, with the chairman, were the finance committee, the remainder being the works committee.

The chairman: “I’m not sure but what we are contravening the Gaming Act.” The following committees will act for the ensuing year: Finance: Crs Bolton (ex-officio), Bryant, . Cornelius, Clulow. and Wh itta. Works: Crs Bolton (ex-officio), Hodgins, Fouhy, Champion qncl Bisset. TOWN TRAFFIC BRIDGE. A letter was read from the Pahiatua. Borough Council enclosing the proposed plan of protective works to be carried out at the town traffic bridge.
