Electric Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, Last Night. •Tom Griffiths (Dunedin) to-night before a crowded house, defeated Darby O’Connor (Sydney) on points in a featherweight professional boxing contest of 15 rounds. O’Connor put Griffiths down foi eight seconds in the fourth round, and lifted him off his feet and |>ut him down again the 13tli round, and again knocked him down for nine seconds in the 13th round. Griffiths lasted better, making up points in the last two rounds. The decision was the correct one* SOCCER AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Australian schoolboys’ Soccer team played the first game of its New Zealand tour to-day when it was beaten by 3 goals to one, by a Wellington schoolboys’ team. The New Zealanders gained ail easy victory by eleven goals to nil. The Queensland, lacking experience and combination, were unable to hold the New Zealanders. The match was in the nature of a try-out, the visitors fielding mostly reserves. The game was without special incident, although the New Zealanders j deuced the onlookers by their excellent combination and know ledge of all branches of the game. The half-time scores was 4 to nil. Seven more goats were amassed in the second half. Seccombe and Matts scored three goals Bell and Worsfeld each two and Edson one. The play of the local men can only be described as scrappy. The New Zealanders have now played twelve matches in Australia, scored 103 goals, compared with 10 against. All the games have been won except that against Victoria at the beginning of the tour, which was drawn*
