A SUDDEN PASSING
HON. R. F. BOLLARD MINISTER OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS. Electric Telegraph —Frees Association WELLINGTON, This Day. Obituary: Hon. R. F. Bollard, aged 64 yeans. The Hon. Richard Francis Bollard, M.P. for Raglan, and Minister of Internal Affairs, was born at Avondale, Auckland, in 1863, being a son of the late Mr John Bollard (M.P. for Eden). He was married with three sons and five daughters. Deceased was educated at public schools and privately He was for seven years clerk of the Avondale Road Board, hut resigned to take up his residence in the Waikato, where lie had resided for the past 23 years. At Taupiri, he owned for ten years one of the largest and most up-to-date sawmills in the W aikato The late Mr Bollard was a member of the Ki rikui roa Road Board, and the Waikato County Council for many years also the Waikato Hospital Board. He elected member for Raglan in 1911. and re-elected at subsequent general elections. He was chairman of the Railways Committee of the. House, jujnior Government whip in 1918, senior whip in 1919, and on June 27th, 1923, was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs, which post he held up to the time of his sudden death, which came as a great shock. The late Minister was very popular with his constituents and colleagues. The municipal flag was flown at half-mast to-day in memory of tin deceased gentleman. The late Hon. R. F. Bollard was taken suddenly ill on Friday, but his condition at the beginning of the week was reported to have shown some improvement.
