Never lay carpets on damp floors, hot let all the boards dry perfectly first. Dampness encourages moths. Vaseline stains, if fresh, can be removed by sponging with turpentine ; it' old, by soaking in turpentine. Putty for odd jobs is made by crushing a handful of whitening in a small bowl, and mixing it to the desired consistency with linseed oil. The liest way to clean Windsor chairs is to scrub with hot water, soap, and a little liquid ammonia. When quite dry, polish with a good furniture polish, or beeswax and turpentine. To clean badly stained or tarnished brass, dab it with a. solution or salt and vinegar, a heaped table spoon to half a pint. Hub briskly, and polish with dry whitening.
