ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
TRAFFIC INSPECTOR KILLED. Electric Telegraph—Press Association TE KUITI, Last Night. Mr J. Rremner, traffic inspector at Ohakune, was killed by a special good train from Hamilton, 1J miles south of Otoroha.nga, at about 4.30 this afternoon. Mr Bremner was proceeding on a jigger toward Otorohanga when he met the train in a cutting as it was coming round a corner. Driver Malone applied the emergency brakes and the train was stopped promptly but too late to avoid a collision. Mr Bremner sustained fearful injuries and death was instantaneous. He was a married man with three children, the youngest six weeks old. COLLAPSE UNDER ANAESTHETIC. GISBORNE. Last Night. An inquest was held concerning the death of Pearl Kemp Hyde, married, aged thirty-seven years, in Cook Hos-pital, while an anaesthetic was being administered. Dr Bowie, acting medical superintendent, said deceased collapsed before she was properly under the anaesthetic. A recognised anaesthetic was used, and the same mixture was used on eight other patients on the day of her death. A post mortem showed a serious disease, which caused internal haemorrhagie for which the patient was about to be examined. In witness’ opinion, death was due to a complaint which could' not he detected but which resulted in her collapse in the early stages of anaesthetic. Alter further evidence, a verdict was returned in accordance with medical evidence, the Coroner, Mr Dewy, adding that all proper steps and precautions had been taken.
