KING’S PICTURES.

SATURDAY’S PROGRAMME. Rupert Hughes lias never been more dramatic in the picturing of a story than in his newest Goldwyn film “Souls for Sale,” which is coming to the King’s Theatre on Saturday, although his hand has by no means lost its cunning in the depiction of the comedy and the little realistic touches of ordinary life which make the whole world km. While “Souls for Sale” is basically a story of motion picture players and the making of photoplays, it tells one of those stories of every-day people and their reactions to life and to each other which have given Mr Hughes his standing and his reputation both as novelist and as motion picture author-director. Mr Hughes was given a oast of players whicji is second to none which has ever appeared in any Goldwyn picture. Chief interest will, perhaps, centre in. Eleanor Boardinan who portrays the leading role. In the brief space of a year, this actress has risen from film extra to star. Her beauty and magnetic charm have had hut little to do with this sudden rise to fame. It was tier excellent work in “Gimme,” “1 lie Strangers’ Banquet” and “Vanity Fair” which won for her the leading role in “Souls for Sale” and a long term contract with Goldwyn. Five other important roles in the film are acted by capable and experienced players, Mae Busch, Barbara La Marr, Frank Mayo, Richard Dix and Lew Godv. There is a score more actors in the cast, majority of whom are known to the film fans. The production is on a big scale, rising to the spectacular climax in the burning of the great circus. The photography by John Meseall is far beyond the ordinary and is a feast of delight to the eye. Steel Trail, Comedy, Gazette, etc., complete a full programme.
