DRUNKEN LORRY DRIVER

Seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed upon a lorry driver, Jafes Lawless, who pleudtxl guilty at the Magistrate's Court, Hamilton, to being drunk when in charge of a motor lorry. Senior-Sergeant Mathew explained that accused’s motor lorry had been found abandoned hi Ellis Street at Frankton last evening. It was standing on the wrong side of the road and facing into the footpath. Defendant had been located a short distance away, lying drunk in the water table. Accused previously had boon prohibited but the order had now expired. Accused stated he had been out all day yesterday and had got wet through. He had had nothing to cat and going home in the evening called at the Frankton Hotel and had three whiskies. To His Worship, defendant said he was prepared to take out a prohibition order.
In sending accused to. prison tlie Magistrate said be would not lake any action in regard to suspending the license as the accused would be thus, deprived of bis means of earning a livelihood.
