STOCK SALES.

MANGAHAO ROAD YARDS.

CHANGE SUGGESTED BY COUNCIL.

“That this Council is of opinion that the time lias arrived when all stock sales in the Borough should bo held iu the Farmers’ Association yards 4or the fallowng reasons: That on sale day there is a congestion of traffic on the Manga hap Road; that the Farmers yards are away from the main traffic streets of the town, and that the sanitary conditions of the Farmers yards are much better than those of the Mangahao yards.” In moving the above motion at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, Cr. Tulloch stated that, 29 of the sheep pens and 27 of the cattle pens at the R.F.A. yards were concreted. These yards will hold 3000 head of cattle and 25,000 sheep. The Association deserved credit for the improvements it had effected to the yards. There was ample accommodation at the P.F.A. yards for all of the stock sales to be held there. He referred to the bad state the roadway and the footpaths near the Manga, hao yards got into on 'wet sale days.

The Mayor, who lives in file vicinity of the yards, spoke of their insanitary condition at certain periods, and said that there was no question from a town point of view it would be more advantageous to have the sales on the eastern side. The bulk of the stock came from tin© eastern side. He thought the change over of the sales to the one sit© would come eventually in any -case, but, it was just as well to bring the idea before the stock -auctioneering firms. Crs Morris and Tinney also commented adversely on th© condition at the Mangahao yards.

The motion, which- was seconded by Cr. Riddell, was carried unanimously, and ta copy of it will be forwarded to the stock auctioneers.
