ODYSSEY OF 800 CHILDREN
20,000 MILES IN SEARCH OF THEIR PARENT’S. Eight hundred Russian children in search of their parents last month arrived in Europe, after being brought from Siberia by the American Red Cross. In the spring of 3918 these children, natives of Moscow and Petrograd, wore sent by their parents, who were anxious regarding their safety, to the Ural mountain districts in charge otf a number of teachers.
Theifr fate was a tragic one. A time came when the remittances from their parents ceased, and most of the teachers abandoned their ch arges. The children wore soon reduced to roaming the woods naked, unattended and unprotected, living on roots and berries. The American Red Cross succeeded in removing a, certain number of them to Vladivosbock and thence to Europe. The League of Rod Cross Societies is attempting by every possible moans to restore the children to their parents, many of whom are now themselves refugees in various countries. The children must have travelled about 20,000 miles
