SCOW DRIVEN ASHORE.
Electric Telegraph—-Press Association. Wanganui. Last Night. The New Zealand Refrigerating Company's auxiliary scow Eunice, bound from Wellington to Wanganui, with a cargo of barrels of tar, struck on the south mole while entering the river this afternoon. Captain Holm and the crew abandoned the vessel and landed safely. Subeequentlv the vessel was driven u pon the south spit beach. and it now lies in an exposed position close to shore. From the amount of wreckage drifting up on the beach, it is evident the vessel is badly damaged, and the pros prs-ts of re-floating it are problematical. A survey of the vessel will be made at low tide to-morrow. At the time of the mishap the weather conditions were normal. The Eunice left Wellington on Saturday last and was delayed with bad weather in the Straits.
