Semi-official: The enemy’s powerful operations against the whole or the Morthosnme-Cumieres region were followed on Monday afternoon by ft double and bloody defeat at Morthomme and Hill 304. The Germans succeeded in taking doubtless temporarily, some portions of our first line by throwing a whole division upon a two-mile front. The participation in this action of fresh troops drawn from another part of the western front proves that the exhaustion of the reserves compels the enemy to deplete the quiet sectors. The French look for the final result of those costly blows with absolute confidence.
A communique states: A brisk attack in the afternoon captured a German work which was strongly organised on the south-west slopes of Morthonmie.
