The first euchre party a rranged for this season by the local Hall Committee was practically drowned out by the wet weather on Monday evening, only about 20 young couples putting in an appearance. Still, progressive cwiohre was indulged in, the winner of the gentlemen’s prize being Mr V. Carter, and of the ladies’. Mrs Ur other stone.

The next recruit to leave Hal lance for the military camp is Mr A. Tunnicliffe, cheese-maker at the Tararua Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory, and he is to be tendered a complimentary social as a send-off next Friday evening in the local hall. All soldiers on leave or returned are cordially invited to attend. The ladies of the district will provide refreshments as usual, and a very pleasant evening is assured.

He also w ished to know if Mr M-Taggart could Ik> secured to give a lecture. It was resolved that the secretary endeavour to arrange with Mr MeTag-

gart (or other Government offioitl) to deliver lectures in Eketahnna. Hukanui and Nireaha on the restoration of pastures, and on the draining o* farm lands. Ihe chairman suggested that in response to a request from the Hukanui secretary it la' endeavoured to organise a trip t< the Wareroa State Farm, to tak" place some time next month. Mr Rridge suggested that an expert might be obtained to attoinl to the orchards throughout the district at the one visit, on a guarantee of sufficient work. It was hard to get labour at present, and the farmers them r selves did net always know how to do the work. It was dechhxl to make inquiries with this end in view.
